Password Protected Directories
Learn how to set up a safe and user-only area in your website with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed only when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people can check out its content. This feature may be used for the primary folder of a specific site or only for a particular subfolder in accordance with the needs you have. As an example, if you are building a new website and you do not want people to see it before it's ready, you need to limit the access to it entirely, and if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you could password-protect only a specific folder, while the other parts of the site may be seen by everybody. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear when the login details the visitor types in are not right. Even a direct link to a file shall not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just several mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your Internet sites in a cloud hosting
account with our company. You'll not have to do anything complex - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login details, there won't be a problem to make a number of different usernames with access to the very same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is active. If you'd like to deactivate the security feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
