A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed only when a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized people can check out its content. This feature may be used for the primary folder of a specific site or only for a particular subfolder in accordance with the needs you have. As an example, if you are building a new website and you do not want people to see it before it's ready, you need to limit the access to it entirely, and if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you could password-protect only a specific folder, while the other parts of the site may be seen by everybody. Regardless, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear when the login details the visitor types in are not right. Even a direct link to a file shall not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just several mouse clicks and a few seconds when you host your Internet sites in a cloud hosting account with our company. You'll not have to do anything complex - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. When a number of people need their own login details, there won't be a problem to make a number of different usernames with access to the very same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you will always know where this function is active. If you'd like to deactivate the security feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.

It will take a couple of clicks to activate the password protection function for any folder that you have, if you use one of our semi-dedicated plans. It is included in the Hepsia CP, that you will get to manage your new account and when you log in and visit the Password Protection section, you shall be able to choose the domain or subdomain that should be protected and then the particular folder - either the primary folder or any subfolder under it. You'll also see 2 boxes in which you shall have to input the login name and the password that'll be required to access the folder in question and you'll be good to go. By following exactly the same steps, you can create many different login credentials for the same folder to give several people their own username/password. All secured folders will feature a small padlock sign in the File Manager section.
