Every single device that's connected to the Internet has a special identifier called IP (Internet Protocol) address. This includes computer systems, web servers, smart phones, switches, and so on. The pool of IP addresses, that was introduced initially, has already been distributed, hence the so-called IPv4 IP addresses are progressively getting replaced with IPv6 addresses. Every domain name which opens a website has an IP record, which is the address of the server where it is hosted. With the IPv4 system, the record is called A and it is comprised of four sets of numbers from 1 to 255 separated with a dot, while in the IPv6 system it's called AAAA and it is made up of eight sets of hexadecimal numbers i.e. this type of records use numbers from 0 to 9 and letters from A to F. A good example of an AAAA record is 2010:0c48:43d3:2142:1012:8c3a:2475:2435 and this format can handle a significantly larger amount of IPs in comparison with the IPv4 format.
AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting
If you use a service with a third-party service provider and you have to create an AAAA record to direct a domain name or a subdomain to their system, you're going to be able to do that with a couple of clicks in the Hepsia Control Panel, which comes with all our cloud hosting packages. As soon as you sign in, you need to proceed to the DNS Records section where you will find all the records for any domain or subdomain hosted inside the account. Setting up a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, choosing the type from a drop-down menu, that is to be AAAA in this case, and then inserting the value, or the actual IPv6 address, in a text box. As an extra option you are able to modify the TTL value (Time To Live), which determines how long the record is going to be live after you modify it or erase it in the future. The new AAAA record is going to be operating in just an hour and will propagate globally two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start pointing to the new hosting server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you've got a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you need to create an AAAA record for a domain address you have hosted in it or a subdomain you've set up, it'll take you only a few clicks inside the Hepsia Control Panel to do that. Even if you have never had a web hosting account before, you'll not experience any issues as you will use a very simple and user-friendly interface. All DNS records for your domain addresses will be listed in a section of the Control Panel with the exact same name, so when you go there, you will see all records that have been set up automatically or manually and you are going to be able to set up a new one by simply clicking on the corresponding button. A small pop-up will appear, so with a couple of clicks you can select the type of record you need and for which domain or subdomain it'll be created. Afterwards, just paste the IPv6 address inside a text box, save the modification and an hour later the new AAAA record is going to be completely live. As an optional setting, you can pick the time this record will be active after you change it or delete it in the future. That's the so-called TTL, or Time To Live value of the record, which you can change from the default 3600 seconds in case the other company requires it.
